At first glance, both the number and quality of player says it all. There isn’t any doubt, the ACC dominates AP preseason First Team on numbers alone. Then you move on to the Second Team and that’s where you realize that the hard work has paid off. The ACC is, THE football conference.

As many of you who listen to the ACC Nation Podcast regularly know, my colleagues and I are talking with each other about sports via Skype or Messenger around the clock. To be quite frank, it is the only way we can all keep up with the non-stop flow from school SID’s and other media outlets.

Will Ojanen and Chris Bond chime in as the story progresses.

Here’s a look at the ACC players on the AP Preseason First Team.

ACC Dominates AP Preseason First Team – The Players

  • Jaire Alexander, Louisville (CB)
  • Bradley Chubb, NC State (DE)
  • Quadree Henderson, Pitt (AP – All Purpose)
  • Derwin James, Florida State (S)
  • Harold Landry, Boston College (DE)
  • Dexter Lawrence, Clemson (DT)
  • Tarvarus McFadden, Florida State (CB)

Also on the First Team roster, OG Quenton Nelson of Notre Dame.

One of the things widely discussed in general and on the podcast as well, is the move from offense to defense this year in the ACC. One look at this First Team roster and you can see where the majority of these players have the most impact.

As for Chris Bond’s thoughts on the ACC players on First Team? “Offense was the calling card of the ACC in 2016 but clearly defense will own the show in 2017 with 7 ACC players as First Team All Americans.”

Now, let’s take a look at the Second Team roster.

ACC Dominates AP Preseason First Team – The Next Layer

  • Quin Blanding, Virginia (S)
  • Lamar Jackson, Louisville (QB)
  • Micah Kiser, Virginia (LB)
  • Jaylen Samuels, NC State (AP – All Purpose)
  • Christian Wilkins, Clemson (DT)

With Lamar Jackson and Jaylen Samuels, the emphasis begins gravitating to offense.

Also on the Second Team roster, OT Mike McGlinchey of Notre Dame.

These lists need one more factor tossed in for good measure and that is the 2018 NFL Mock Draft from WalterFootball.com. Why? I like to stir the pot and where some of these players are projected in the draft will accomplish that nicely.

You may already see where I’m headed with comparing the players selected to the First and Second teams with where many are projected in the NFL Mock Draft. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.

My colleague, Will Ojanen sums it up well. “If you thought the ACC being the best conference last season was a fluke, the amount of talent on both teams proves this is clearly not the case.”
