ACC Cross Country Championships

Syracuse men and NC State women once again deliver the 2017 ACC Cross Country Championships. The Orange for the fifth consecutive year and Wolfpack for the second.

The men’s gold medalist, Justyn Knight, captured his second first place finish in the event. Four teammates, including Colin Bennie in third, crossed the finish line in the top 10 to help Syracuse clinch the team title.

NC State runners, led by freshman Dominique Clairmonte who finished third, also took fourth, fifth and tenth to take home the team championship for the Wolfpack.

Taking home the women’s gold medal was Paige Stoner of Syracuse. Teammate Shannon Malone came in seventh to help Syracuse clinch a fourth place team finish.

Included among the top 5 men’s teams are Virginia Tech, NC State, Virginia and Florida State.

On the women’s side, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Syracuse and Wake Forest joined NC State finishing in the top 5.

ACC Cross Country Championships – ACC Nation Podcast

Syracuse has won the ACC Cross Country Championship every year since joining the conference in 2013. Justyn Knight is the first men’s runner grabbing consecutive gold medals since 2010. Virginia’s Emil Heineking won back to back titles in 2009 and 2010.

NC State has won the ACC Cross Country Championship a total of 23 times. Wolfpack head coach Laurie Henes has coached the team to three titles since taking over the program. Henes ran on four championship teams at NC State, was a gold medalist in 1991 and an All-American.

The NCAA Cross Country Regional competition begins on Friday, November 10 with ACC teams venturing to five different sites.

Teams will return to E. P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville on Saturday, November 18 for the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships.
