Apple Carts Are Meant To Be Turned Over | Week 5

Apple Carts

Apple Carts, as Frank A. Clark is noted as saying at QuoteFancy.com, should be upset, as the apples are destined to rot if you don’t. College football is known to have at least one weekend where anyone, anytime can end up on the wrong side of the win-loss equation and those teams are the proverbial apples in the cart. It seems as if this was chosen by karma to be that, ‘one’ for many Top 25 teams. As the actor George Takei, best known as Sulu from Star Trek says, ‘Ohhhh Myyyy’.

Anyone sitting in the stands or tuning in these games understands why you never leave until the clock winds down. No. 1 Ohio State ended up with a 24-6 win over unranked Washington but let’s be real, they struggled. Will the Buckeyes remain in the top spot?

No. 3 Penn State fell to No. 6 Oregon 30-24 and for a while it felt as if that score could have had a broader gap. No. 4 LSU dropped to No. 13 Ole Miss, 24-19. No. 5 Georgia apparently has a soft spot for No. 17 Alabama as they delivered a 24-21 win to the Crimson Tide. No. 8 Florida State fully understands the curse of Scott Stadium as they dropped to unranked Virginia 46-38.

More apple carts were spilling their content along the way on Saturday as No. 9 Texas A&M slipped by unranked Auburn 16-10. No. 11 Indiana survived unranked Iowa 20-15. No. 15 Tennessee was taken into overtime by unranked Mississippi St and came out a 41-34 winner. And, No. 16 Georgia Tech just got by unranked Wake Forest in overtime, 30-29.

The apple carts that were upended don’t stop with the top teams in the rankings. It extends to No. 21 USC who fell to No. 23 Illinois, 34-32. No. 24 TCU, after much effort to break into the Top 25 will likely find themselves on the outs again after falling to unranked Arizona St, 27-24. The final game found No. 25 BYU slipping by unranked Colorado, 24-21.
