No one knows better than die-hard Virginia men’s basketball fans how much the program has gone from high to low and according to Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander, back to high. The duo’s podcast, CBS Sports College Basketball featured the Wahoos in their 2025 Summer Shootaround and provided a roster overview.

Right from the top they praise the addition of Ryan Odom as head coach who despite having to fill the large shoes of Tony Bennett has already put his own mark on what is now his program. Norlander runs down the additions via the Transfer Portal that has placed the team at No. 35 on Bart Torvik’s college basketball projections. That’s quite an improvement from last year’s final at No. 97.
Virginia
Torvik projects good things for the ACC overall with Virginia returning to form. The top 5 teams in the conference are listed as:

- Louisville
- North Carolina
- Virginia
- NC State
In addition to Odom the program has received an infusion of NIL money that is making a significant difference. The two point out the upsides and downsides of NIL overall in college basketball. The latter being the loss of coaches like Bennett and not retaining rosters in part because loyalty is no longer a thing.
The changes in personnel are significant with an influx of very talented individuals that are plug ‘n play.
