The NCAA Woman of the Year Selection Committee released the Top 30 Honorees list for the 2024 award and it includes two women from the ACC. Established in 1991 the award recognizes student-athletes who have completed undergraduate studies and distinguished themselves in community activities, athletics and academics. A record 627 individuals were submitted by member schools from all three Divisions with 10 from each.
Jala Wright of Duke and Natasha Subhash of Virginia are included among this year’s Top 30. Wright majored in Sociology and earned numerous All-America Academic honors. She was the 2024 ACC Pitcher of the Year and was named a Top 26 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year honor. She served as an advocate for mental health awareness among student-athletes, mentored young girls through the Chasing Greatness Mentorship program and was a community service liaison for Team IMPACT for the Duke softball team.

Subhash majored in Commerce and earned numerous All-America Academic honors including being the first university athlete to win the schools Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award three times. She was the ITA National Rookie of the Year in 2020, earned multiple All-America honors and finished her career ranked in the top 5 of Virginia women’s tennis with win in singles and doubles. Subhash volunteered with Special Olympics tennis clinics, tutored elementary school students and worked virtually through the pandemic with a student whose first language was not English.

They have distinguished themselves among the many thousands of collegiate athletes who find and surpass their limits every day on the journey to becoming their best selves”, said Marion Terenzio, chair of the Woman of the Year Selection Committee.

The committee will determine three honorees from each division, for a total of 9 finalists. From that final group the committee will choose the 2024 NCAA Woman of the Year who will be named in January at the NCAA Convention.
