Well folks, here we are. It’s the real beginning of the ACC football season. All of the offseason optimism you have in your team could either be realized or crushed by the end of the weekend, just like that (hopefully it’s not). But there are some good storylines to follow in week one. Here are some of the ones that you should follow for week one:

-Will Clemson be competitive against Georgia? This is a tall task for the Tigers, going up against the defending national champion. They’re considerable underdogs to this Goliath, and everyone is watching how this version of the Tigers fares. There is a considerable eye on Cade Klubnik, as to many, he is the key to Clemson’s success. We all know about Dabo’s refusal to use the portal, but a blowout loss here will only make those in the national media harp about that even more.

-Can Miami hold off its in-state rival? This is a critical matchup for both teams. You can easily argue that this Miami roster is the most talented in the ACC football, but we know Mario Cristobal is not the best X’s and O’s coach. He has to get rid of that stigma, and this game against the Gators is a good spot to start.

-How does FSU follow up last week’s loss? There were a lot of questions with the Seminoles after last week’s surprising loss to Georgia Tech. Fortunately, they have a couple of extra days to prepare for Boston College, who will not be an easy foe to beat, with a new head coach in Bill O’Brien, and a quarterback in Thomas Castellanos, who is a tough, dual threat quarterback.
-What about the new schools? We saw SMU struggle mightily with Nevada, but they should have no trouble dispatching Houston Christian. Cal will open up its first ACC football season against UC-Davis. Again, that shouldn’t be an issue. Stanford, on the other hand, will have a much tougher test in TCU. The Cardinal frankly, are still a work in progress.
