Allow yourself the pleasure of embracing the seductive dream of week 1 of college football. This is, for the most part, especially applicable with ACC teams. The Labor Day weekend of offerings turned out to be far more than anyone might have imagined. It wasn’t just who won or who lost, it was the manner in which it was done that turned out to be the biggest surprise.
Where To Next For Boston College? This Week’s Guest A.J. Black Talks Eagles Football
Let’s get this part right out into the open before we venture much further. This was the first game for each of these teams. The first half of almost every game we watched certainly reflected the need to shake off some rust and get back in the groove of competing against someone other than teammates. So, take the second half as a better indicator of where your team may be headed this college football season. At the same time, don’t forget the hours of analysis that will occur and adjustments made in the following weeks.
In other words, no calling for a head coaches job just yet. It’s far too early (despite what some are doing). See what he and his staff can do to improve the team’s performance in the coming weeks before pulling out the whetstone to sharpen that blade. Should things fail to come together then we’ll be talking about who and why may be atop a hot seat in week 4.

College football week 1 was full of surprises and some of those bit the guys, more so Jim. Will came up short with Boston College and Clemson while Jim picked Georgia Tech over Louisville (almost only counts in horseshoes), Boston College, South Carolina (wasn’t sold on North Carolina’s defense and is now eating Crow) and Clemson seemed like a sure thing but little did either of the guys know.
What’s different in college football week 2? Hand them a saw and let them climb the tree. Will is going outside the conference in his picks of Notre Dame, Purdue and Texas A&M while Jim thinks James Madison is more than meets the eye and should be a tough opponent for Virginia. As it’s only about an hour away look for lots of purple in Scott Stadium if fickle Wahoo fans don’t show.
In what may seem like an insane move he’s also taking NC State over Notre Dame. It’s not as if either team has played a tough opponent so far and it is in Raleigh. Speaking of fans showing the Irish travel well world-wide so Pack fans need to get there early and in droves. And finally, Jim has confidence in Brent Pry being the guy to make the kind of adjustments that will have the Sand Man putting Purdue to bed early in Blacksburg.
It’s another crazy, upside down college football season in the ACC.
