The ACC Rowing Championships are still a month away and it appears as if the conference dominant Virginia may have some close competition this season. The Cavaliers, coached by Kevin Sauer who is in his 27th season sit at No. 10 in the latest CRCA Coaches Poll but are followed closely by Duke, under the guidance of Megan Cooke Carcagno at No. 11. Carcagno is in her 6th year as head coach and has helped the Blue Devils rowing team turn a significant corner as a competitive squad.

Close behind Virginia and Duke is Syracuse where former U.S. Olympic national team coach Luke McGee, who joined the program in June of 2018 has the Orange at No. 14 in the latest polls.

Sauer has taken Virginia to 11 top 4 finishes and 17 top 5 finishes in the NCAA’s including championship titles in 2010 and 2012. Carcagno, who was with the Wisconsin staff before taking over in Durham has generated 3 NCAA qualifying teams and helped guide the team to 7 top 3 finishes in the ACC since taking over. McGee, who was with the Washington coaching staff before taking over at Syracuse is beginning to see the payoff for his efforts in building the team.
