3 ACC WLAX Teams Top Poll | Eagles Crave Another Shot

To say it was quite a year for ACC WLAX last season would be quite the understatement. After a Battle Royale among conference foes, Boston College came away with the title. Then five ACC teams made their way into the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament and the ACC vs ACC scramble found it’s way all the way to the Semifinals.

Before we look at how everything wrapped up and the projected rankings for the 2024 season let’s drop in some interesting ACC WLAX news. We’ll start with an announcement last fall by Florida State that they’ll move from club to scholarship sport beginning in the 2025/2026 academic year. They’ll join 10 other squads competing in one of the toughest college lacrosse conferences.

Summer opened the door for a new head coach at Virginia as Sonia Lamonica came aboard from Towson. Lamonica made a name for herself as a player at Maryland. The two schools have stellar reputations when it comes to lacrosse.

In last year’s tournament, unseeded Virginia stumbled in the First Round against Albany with a 16-14 loss. No. 4 seed North Carolina fell to No. 5 seed Denver in the Third Round, 5-4. Unseeded Notre Dame upended No. 6 seed Florida in the Second Round, 16-15 before falling to No. 3 seed Boston College in the Third Round. No. 2 seed Syracuse defeated No. 7 James Madison 13-7 in the Third Round and went on to face Boston College in the Semifinals.

The Eagles and Cuse battled it out for their shot at the national title with Boston College pulling off an 8-7 win that then pitted them against Northwestern. 2023 wasn’t to be the year for a national title for Boston College as they fell to the No. 1 seeded team, 18-6. Might it be this year?

The ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championships get underway with on-campus First Round matchups on April 21. Then the action moves to American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte on April 24, 26 and 28. Coverage will be available via the ACC Network.
